Now, I know that I haven't used DeviantArt much, but I was under the impression from what I've seen others doing and what I've read online that thanking people for giving you a fave
was good practice. I think it's just polite, but apparently it creates good relations between members too. So imagine my surprise when I went to thank someone for
ing more of my art and found out I'd been blocked. Turns out that low down on their profile in a place I hadn't seen before they state that they block anyone who thanks them.
What the heck is up with that? Why on earth would you block someone for politely acknowledging that you liked them? It seems like a crappy thing to do. Of course now I'm wondering if there are other users with this secret rule and if I'm going to get blocked by other people for doing what I thought was the right thing.
Was this person an oddity among DA users? Is there some reason for a user having that kind of policy? It really makes no sense to me. I think thanking people is just a good habit to have. I also like to leave a comment on everything I
. I figure it's nice for someone to know why a person liked their work. My commenting has actually started a few little conversations, and I think that's cool. I just have to wonder about this person. And anyway, since most people post their thank you on the favorites page of the person who gave the
, they'd never see the notice on the very bottom of that user's profile.
Oh well. I'll just hope it's a one-off thing and it's not a normal practice for DA users. Until I find out otherwise, I'm going to thank people who take the time to show some interest in my work.
